15 suspected drug peddlers held in Oman
The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have arrested 15 suspected drug peddlers following a raid carried out by a team from the Directorate of Narcotics Control on their hideouts, according to a police press release here Saturday
Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have arrested 15 suspected drug peddlers following a raid carried out by a team from the Directorate of Narcotics Control on their hideouts, according to a police press release here Saturday.
"During the raid the accused were found in possession of drugs and psychotropic substances," a senior officer at the Criminal Investigation Department said.
"The accused have now being referred to the prosecution department for further investigation," he added.
He said that the police in the country had now set up a team of experts to crack down on the attempts to smuggle drugs into Oman.
The Coast Guard has also been provided with new boats to combat smuggling. "In addition to this, the air force has been provided with advanced helicopters to monitor the Omani territorial waters, the route most drug smugglers use," the CID officer said.
According to the officer, among the various modus operandi of these smugglers was to use infiltrators as couriers to smuggle drugs into the country. "We urge the citizens to cooperate with us to track down both the infiltrators and drug smugglers," he reiterated.
Meanwhile, the police have also arrested three Omani citizens at Wadi Al Jezi, Wadi Saa and Al Wajaja border posts while attempting to smuggle banned cigarettes into the country.
