Manama: Kuwait’s National Guards is taking disciplinary action against a graduate who disrupted the solemn graduation ceremony by taking a selfie, the world’s trendiest pose.
The lieutenant was walking alongside the other graduates during the ceremony at Ali Al Sabah military academy when he recklessly took a selfie, sources told local daily Al Rai.
The photo-snapping inappropriate behaviour inevitably disrupted the parade, causing embarrassment to fellow graduates and affecting the parade, particularly that the ceremony was broadcast by television channels, the sources added.
The officer was summoned after the graduation ceremony for investigation and he reportedly admitted his wrongdoing.
Selfies in Kuwait, like in the rest of the world, have gained huge popularity with people taking pictures of themselves and sharing them on social networks.
The trend even reached US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron who famously posed for a selfie with Denmark's Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt Nelson Mandela’s funeral. The action was widely condemned as a flagrant lack of respect.
