Manama: A woman in Kuwait hurled a cup of boiling tea at the wife of the former British ambassador, causing her second degree burns, a local Arabic daily has reported.

According to Al Watan, a British commercial delegation was at a restaurant in the Mishref area when they were shocked to see a woman carry a cup of boiling tea and hurl at the diplomat’s wife before fleeing with another woman.

The victim, identified later as Dianne Wilton, was taken to a private clinic in the Salmiya area where she was treated for burns to her head and other parts of her body, the daily said on Wednesday.

Sources cited by Al Watan said that the British victim was on her first visit to Kuwait in more than four years and was seated a distance from the woman who hurled the scalding tea.

The police are investigating the unprecedented case.

Christopher Wilton served in Kuwait from 2002 to 2005.
