Manama: The Saudi embassy in Kuwait has reported local MP Abdul Hameed Dashti to the foreign ministry over verbal abuses.
Ambassador Abdul Aziz Al Fayez presented the memorandum to the ministry after the lawmaker appearing on a pro-Syrian regime television channel reportedly said that Saudi Arabia was sponsoring terrorism and should be bombed.
Referring to the current situation in war-torn Syria, Dashti said that there were countries near Syria that supported terrorism and should be targeted. He reportedly named Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
The remarks trigged a wave of criticism and condemnation on social networks, with users arguing that it was not the first time the lawmaker attacked Saudi Arabia.
However, Al Fayez said that the “odd voices” that attack the Saudi kingdom using the media would not affect in anyway the robust relations between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Kuwaiti media reported.
“The attack by Dashti on a pro-Syrian regime channel will not achieve its aim and will not fissure the fraternal relations between our countries,” he said. “The attempts to loosen the close-knit relations between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries invariably result in greater unity.”
The GCC, established in 1981, comprises Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
“Saudi Arabia followed the standard diplomatic procedures in reporting a complaint against anyone who abuses or targets the kingdom,” he said. “The memorandum includes the abuses and requests holding whoever is behind them responsible,” the ambassador said.
