Manama: Kuwait's interior minister said that it had arrested Salem Abdullah Ishtail Al Dossari, a Kuwaiti citizen, upon his arrival at the airport from the United Kingdom.

A statement issued by the Public Relations and Security Media Department at the Ministry late on Thursday said that Dossari, born in 1975, was accused of posting video clips on social media that contained vulgar and derogatory remarks against the Emir in a blatant violation of the constitution and the laws.

Al Dossari, also known as Abu Rafaa, had "failed to comply with the traditions, customs and norms and used negative expressions against the Emir," the statement said.

He has also targeted the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The authorities have also accused the suspect of inciting mutiny and disturbances by making derogatory remarks about a religious sect, the statement said.

Reports in Kuwait said that he used the Snapchat smartphone application to launch social media attacks against certain tribes and some people.

Al Dossari was referred to the public prosecution following the regular security procedures.

The interior ministry stressed that it would not tolerate attacks on the Emir and on national values.
