Manama: A Kuwaiti official has denied claims that he was suing a blogger for posting "negative" remarks on Twitter.

"The claim that I am taking legal action is baseless and lacks credibility," Shaikh Khalid Al Abdullah, the head of protocols at the Emiri Court, said. "I do not know how my name was included in this issue. I have absolutely nothing to do with this and my values do not condone such actions," he said in a statement.

An online news site last week said that Shaikh Khalid was suing Tariq Al Mutairi, a Kuwaiti activist and journalist, for his calls on Twitter for the formation of a new government.

"I follow what is being written on Twitter only through newspapers and online news," Shaikh Khalid said. "I wish that people would get in touch with me before they post or publish anything to ensure that the whole truth is conveyed and that nobody would exploit a loophole or a vacuum to disseminate false and baseless information," he said.
