Manama: A Kuwaiti man who has reportedly swindled a woman out of 35,000 Kuwaiti Dinars ($125,768) by promising to help her buy a car from Germany was allowed to go home after the court of appeals overturned an earlier sentence of two years in prison.
According to local Arabic daily Al Shahed, the man had befriended the Kuwaiti woman and offered his assistance when she told him she was keen on a new Porsche.
The man said that he would help her buy the expensive car with special options from Germany. He later told her he made phone calls and the salesman asked for KD20,000 ($71,867) as advance payment. After some time, the man again duped the trusting woman and asked for KD15,000 ($53,900) to finalise the deal, but soon afterwards, he disappeared.
A court sentenced him to two years, but his lawyer appealed the verdict, arguing it was based on the woman's version and challenged her to give evidence that she had handed him any amount of money, the daily said.
