Manama: A Kuwaiti lawmaker has asked the foreign minister to provide information about the contract signed with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to act as consultant.
MP Faisal Al Mosallam requested Shaikh Sabah Al Khalid to explain whether the contract signed by the Kuwaiti government with Blair was in his personal capacity or as the owner of a consultancy firm.
The explanations should also include the objectives and the cost of the deal, whether Blair had completed the assigned tasks and the extent of the work failures, the lawmaker said, news site Sabr reported on Monday.
'Political and economic trends'
British media in December 2010 said that Kuwait was the first client of Tony Blair Associates, the London-based firm set up by Blair in 2009 to recommend "political and economic trends and governmental reform."
Reports said that Blair's firm stood to earn more than 12 million Kuwaiti Dinars from the deal. However, people working with Blair at the time dismissed the claims as exaggerated.
