Manama: The Kuwait Journalists Association (KJA) on Thursday condemned a gun attack on a journalist working for an Arabic daily based in the country.

Hussain Al Harbi, who works for Al Rai daily, was on Wednesday driving in Al Jahra, north west of the capital, when his car was fired upon.

"I heard the shot and immediately increased speed, as I was not sure of what was happening," Al Harbi told the police later.

“When I had gone some distance, I stopped and checked my car and saw the damage caused by the bullet. I do not honestly know whether I was the target,” his paper quoted him as saying.

Faisal Al Qanai, the head of the journalists’ association, said he was waiting for the results of the police investigation.

"We hope to have (some information) about the identity of the person who fired the bullet and the motives,” he said. “We just hope that it was an unfortunate accident and not someone targeting Hussain. We are not used to using firearms in Kuwait to express our views. We have always opted for dialogue to communicate, regardless of our differences.”
