Manama: A Kuwaiti court on Monday ordered a local newspaper and a former lawmaker to pay 10,000 Dinars ($35,842) each in the case brought against them by Qatar's prime minister, news site Al Aan reported.

Shaikh Hamad Bin Jasem Al Thani took the legal action following the publication in December of a report in Al Shahed newspaper that alleged that the Qatari official had written out a 200 million riyals ($52,911,300) cheque to a person called "Mosallam". The report insinuated that the beneficiary was MP Mosallam Al Barrak and that Qatar was interfering in Kuwait's domestic affairs.

Al Barrak denied the allegations and sought public clarifications from the Doha-based bank that allegedly transferred the funds.
