Manama: A Kuwaiti court on Thursday acquitted blogger Saqr Al Hashah in the case of undermining the status of the country’s Emir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad.
However, a second case against the blogger, also for undermining the status of the emir, was adjourned to May 16.
Al Hashah has been facing a series of court trials.
On Monday, the court of appeals slashed a jail sentence against him from two years to one year.
The blogger was given the sentence by the lower court on charges of undermining the status of the emir in remarks he published on his Twitter account.
The case, brought against him by the state security, included the charge of interfering in the prerogatives of the emir.
His lawyer Tahmer Al Jadai said they would challenge the verdict at the court of cassation.
In another case, Hamed Al Khalidi, another blogger, will know his fate on May 23 after the court put off his trial for his insulting tweets.
The case against four stateless residents, or ‘bidoons’, who were put on trial for their role in an illegal rally will be reviewed by the court on May 30.
