Manama: Kuwait has kept a ban on the import of foods it believes are unfit for human consumption.
The food safety committee has recommended continuing an import ban imposed on Canadian beef and on beef, mutton, deer meats, and derivative products from Tajikistan.
The committee recommended imposing a ban on importing poultry meats and eggs from Nepal, said committee chairman Mohammad Al Utaibi.
Another recommendation was to follow-up a ministerial decision to lift the ban on importing fresh, chilled, and frozen poultry meats and eggs from the Netherlands, he said.
The committee has commissioned a report on the visit made by a GCC inspection team regarding lifting the ban on importing beef and cattle from Spain and European Union countries, Al Utaibi told Kuwait News Agency.
He said that the committee recommended commissioning the representative of Ministry of Health to address the department of radiation watch on checking that foodstuff imported from Japan are radiation-free and suitable for human consumption.
