Manama: Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) has distributed food and medical aid for 3,000 Libyan families who fled the conflict and are now hosted by Tunisian families.

Yousuf Al Meraj, Director of KRCS's Disasters and Emergency Department, supervised the distribution of 43 kilograms of various food and medical supplies to every Libyan family staying in the border governorates of Tataouine, Medenine and Gabes, Kuwait News Agency (Kuna), said. Each of the governorates is currently hosting around 1,000 families, and the governors expressed their appreciation of the Kuwaiti support, the agency said. Al Meraj said that the distribution of the aid was coordinated with the Tunisian and Libyan Red Crescents and that up to 17 tonnes of urgent medical supplies were sent to the Libyan people through the Tunisian and Egyptian borders.

Nabeel Ferjani, Medenine governor, said that he hoped the assistance would continue and that the Libyan refugees in the Tunisian camps would be able to return to their country "as soon as possible."

Scenes from the movie Star Wars were shot in the governorate of Tataouine whose name inspired the name of Tatooine, the desert world in a binary star system in the Arkanis sector of the Outer Rim Territories in the movie.
