Kuwait City: Kuwait's defense minister has ordered an investigation into a military college enrolment policy to ensure full compliance with regulations.

The probe launch order was issued after officers discovered that several students had high school diplomas that could not be endorsed by the Kuwaiti education authorities.

The diplomas were awarded by private high schools in Gulf Cooperation Council countries where education criteria were not strict and the students' presence in class was not mandatory, Kuwaiti daily Al Rai reported on Monday.

Initial investigations have revealed that a senior military officer in the defence ministry and several lawmakers have exerted pressure to allow the college to accept the students despite the non-compliance of their diplomas with the regulations, the daily said.
