Manama: A Kuwaiti lawmaker has called for launching a campaign to have the editors in chief of local papers and owners of satellite channels disclose their bank account details.
MP Faisal Al Musallam said he was certain that some media people had money deposited in their bank accounts to influence their writing.
However, the opposition lawmaker did not name who deposited or received the money.
Kuwait's public prosecution is currently looking into the accounts of 18 MPs on suspicion that huge amounts of money had been added to their accounts to influence their voting.
The probe was launched after local banks reported the suspicious transactions, amounting to millions of dollars, to the central bank.
The graft scandal was used by opposition lawmakers to deepen a political crisis and to exert parliament and street pressure on the government to step down.
