Manama: Kuwaiti MP Hussain Al Quwaian Al Mutairi on Sunday presented an official motion to the Parliament Secretariat to grill Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Minister of Health Shaikh Mohammad Al Abdullah Al Sabah in his official capacity.
The motion addresses “compromising vital sector projects, financial and administrative corruption and deliberate negligence of and failure to oversee affairs of the ministry,” Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) reported.
The questioning is under Article 100 of the Kuwaiti Constitution that stipulates that “every member of the National Assembly may address the Prime Minister and to Ministers interpellations with regard to matters falling within their competence.”
“The debate on such an interpellation shall not take place until at least eight days have elapsed after its presentation, except in case of urgency and with the consent of the Minister concerned. Subject to the provisions of Articles 101 and 102, an interpellation may lead to the question of no-confidence being put to the Assembly.”
The motion filed by MP Al Mutairi for the grilling of a member of the cabinet is the second in the first week of the new legislative term.
MP Riad Al Adsani on Thursday presented a motion to quiz Prime Minister Shaikh Jaber Al Mubarak Al Sabah on the issues of the housing crisis and of the corruption index, Kuna said.
A report in Arabic daily Al Watan said that Shaikh Jaber would request a postponement of the grilling for two weeks “due to commitments, including a visit to India to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation.”
Relations between the government and the parliament in Kuwait have often waded into bitter standoffs despite regular calls by the Emir for cooperation for the sake of the nation.
