Manama: Kuwait has mobilised 548 legal consultants, judges and prosecutors for the parliamentary elections next month.
The legal staff will be tasked with supervising the polling process in which more than 400,000 voters are expected to cast their ballots to choose 50 members of parliament.
“No excuse was accepted and all those designated to supervise the elections will be there,” sources told local Arabic daily Al Jareeda. “This is a historic day for the nation and all have to be involved. However, there are also substitutes on the list for cases of emergency,” the sources said, adding that the judiciary branch has a total workforce of 827 people.
Kuwait has also mobilised 60 officers, 1,150 student officers and 100 military and vocational service people to ensure “a safe and proper distribution and collection of the ballot boxes.”
“The ballot boxes safety unit will implement the instructions of the judges chairing the electoral committees and districts,” Hameed Al Sammak, the head of the unit, said, quoted by the daily.
The parliamentary elections will be held on February and candidates have until Wednesday to pull out of the race.
