Manama: The car of a Kuwaiti minister has been impounded for exceeding the speed limit.

Reports in the capital Kuwait City said that the traffic police stopped a speeding car on the Nuwaisab highway, but discovered that it belonged to the minister of municipality affairs who holds the cabinet affairs portfolio, Shaikh Mohammad Al Abdullah Al Sabah. He is also a member of the ruling family. When the police alerted the assistant undersecretary for traffic, Abdul Fattah Al Ali, about the situation, he urged the application of the law regardless of the name of the car owner, local daily Al Watan reported on Wednesday.

The car was subsequently impounded for two months as stipulated by the traffic law.

In December, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan was pulled over by the police for using a mobile phone while driving.

Shaikh Abdullah later posted a message on Twitter in which he thanked the Abu Dhabi police for their action.
