Manama: A Kuwaiti man has been summoned by the police for allegedly breaking his wife's nose for nagging him during a World Cup match.

In her charges, the woman said that her husband had beaten her after blaming him for devoting too much time to watching a football match, Al Anba newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The angry husband insulted her before beating her until she lost consciousness, the wife alleged.

The woman said that she later called her brother who took her to hospital where doctors treated her and gave her a report explaining that she had a nasal fracture.

Meanwhile, in the USA, police arrested a man who allegedly beat and suffocated his two-year-old stepdaughter during the World Cup soccer match between the US and Ghana on Saturday before jamming a screw down her throat in an attempt to make the slaying appear accidental, the Monitor reported.

Hector Castro, a 28-year-old illegal immigrant, told investigators he was looking after his stepdaughter as he tried to watch the World Cup football match on television.

The toddler would not stop crying, and Castro allegedly gave the girl a severe beating, cracking several of her ribs before suffocating her. He then jammed a screw down her throat in an attempt to make the suffocation appear accidental.

Firefighters and emergency medical personnel had been called to the house in reference to the girl’s apparent choking on a screw.

However, after a cursory examination of the girl, it was clear the screw had nothing to do with her death, police said, quoted by the Monitor.
