Manama: Kuwait’s newly-appointed information minister has resigned, citing health reasons, a local news portal reported on Sunday.

Sami Al Nasef presented his resignation in June, and despite several attempts to persuade him to withdraw it, he insisted on leaving for cabinet on the grounds of his poor health, Al Aan said.

Salem Al Othaina, an independent academic who heads the electricity and water ministry, will replace him, the news portal said.

Al Nasef, a liberal writer, has recently returned to Kuwait following medical treatment in London. He was given the highly controversial information portfolio in the new cabinet formed on May 9.
