Manama: Kuwait has no intention to privatize the state radio station, Kuwait Radio, the information minister has said.
Calling it "a governmental monument and mouthpiece", Shaikh Ahmad Al Abdullah Al Sabah said that Kuwait Radio has kept up with rapidly developing media through ensuring the highest standard and adopting the latest technological features.
The minister who is also in charge of the oil portfolio was celebrating alongside the employees the 60th anniversary of the radio.
Shaikh Ahmad paid special homage to the late announcer Mubarak Al Mayyal, who was the first voice heard on the national station and to other well-known presenters.
During the celebratory event, the minister formally launched Kuwait's newest radio station, ‘Huna Al Kuwait' (This is Kuwait), Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
Marina FM, Kuwait's first private radio, started broadcasting in April 2005 from Marina Mall, one of the most important commercial and recreational centers in Kuwait City.
