Manama: Attacks plotted by the Daesh terrorist group have been foiled, the Kuwaiti interior ministry has said.
In the first of three cases, a Kuwaiti national, Talal Nayef Raja, 18, was arrested before he could carry out a terror attack on a Shiite mosque in Hawalli, the interior ministry said.
The terrorist was also planning to attack an establishment belonging to the interior ministry, it added.
In his confessions, he said that he had planned to carry out the attacks at the end of Ramadan or during Eid Al Fitr, the feast that marks the end of the fasting month.
He said that he had received instructions for the attacks from Daesh to carry out the attacks or to ask a young recruit who was not known by the security authorities.
The attacks would have been through the use of an explosive belt or a gun, he added, Kuwaiti daily Al Rai reported on Monday.
In the second case, the authorities were able to repatriate a Kuwaiti man, Ali Mohammad Omar, 28, and his mother, Hessa Abdullah Mohammad, 52, also a Kuwaiti, from Syria where they had strong links with Daesh.
The son and mother confessed that they were members of Daesh.
The son said that his mother had encouraged him to join the group, and that his brother, Abdullah Mohammad Omar, 25, who was also pushed by their mother to become active with Daesh, was killed in an attack in Iraq.
Ali said that following the death of his brother, he left his college in Britain where he was studying petroleum, and moved with his mother to Syria to join Daesh. The son was tasked with assisting in the oil field operations while the mother became a teacher for the wives of terrorists. She was also tasked with providing motivation and encouragement to the wives and children of the terrorists, the daily added.
In the third case announced by the interior ministry late on Sunday, a terrorist cell that included a Kuwaiti national, Mubarak Fahad Mubarak, 22, a Gulf national and an Asian was busted.
During the raid, the security authorities discovered two Kalashnikovs and ammunitions as well as a Daesh flag hidden by the main suspect, Mubarak, inside a large box.
