The Coop Societies Union in coordination with Kuwait Municipality's Food Department withdrew tens of tonnes of local frozen and chilled chicken late on Monday after it was found that it was infected with salmonella.
Bacteria that sometimes can be fatal to humans, salmonella mostly causes diarrhoea that is usually resolved in five to seven days.
If left untreated however it could cause severe dehydration with symptoms that include high temperature, headache, drowsiness and nausea.
Some salmonella strains have become resistant to antibiotics largely as a result of the use of antibiotics to promote the growth of farm animals.
