Manama: The crime rate in Kuwait has decreased by 14.3 per cent in the past six months, figures from the interior ministry indicate.
Lieutenant Colonel Adel Al Hashash, Director of Public Relations and Moral Guidance, said that 9,845 crimes were recorded from January to June, compared with 11,491 cases in the same period of 2012.
The decrease of 1,646 cases represented a 14,3 per cent drop, he said on Saturday, Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) reported.
Al Hashash, who also holds the position of acting director of security media at the ministry, said that the latest statistics showed that during the first six months of this year the crime rate was low in all of the country’s governorates, compared with the crime rate of the same period last year.
Highest crime rates were recorded in Farwaniya, Hawalli and Ahmadi governorates, he said.
The drop in crime rates was also across the categories of financial crimes, murder, defamation and public security.
