Manama: Iran's ambassador to Kuwait has been reportedly barred from running in his country's parliament elections in March, a Kuwaiti daily reported.
According to Al Anba newspaper, Rouhullah Qahremani Chabok had sought to represent Rasht, the capital of Gilan Province and the largest city on Iran's Caspian Sea coast, where he was the top administrator before his appointment as ambassador in Kuwait in February 2011.
However, the daily, citing Iranian websites, said on Thursday that he had been disqualified, but gave no reason for the decision.
Candidates in the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) elections on March 2 had to register under a process handled by the interior ministry.
The ministry said that 5,395 potential candidates had signed up to run in the elections for the 290-seat assembly.
However, candidates have to be vetted by the Guardian Council.
