Manama: An Ethiopian domestic helper in Kuwait is facing attempted murder charges after she laced the food of her employer’s son with her menstrual blood.

The father, a stateless Arab, said that he had taken his young son to hospital after he complained of acute pains and throwing up his food, Arabic daily Al Anba reported.

“When the doctors suspected food poisoning, I was puzzled as we did not order food from outside,” the father said. “My son told me that that he had asked the domestic helper to prepare something and that he felt the food had a strange taste. He subsequently felt the pain.”

The father said that he pressed the domestic helper to tell him the truth.

“I was shocked when she admitted that she had mixed her menstrual blood with the food she prepared for my son,” he said.

The father alerted the police who proceeded to arrest the woman.

Ebrahim Al Tarah, the head of Al Jahra police, said that the woman was a 24-year-old Ethiopian and that she had admitted mixing the food with the menstrual blood, the daily reported on Sunday.

The public prosecutor has charged her with attempting murder, he said.
