Kuwait: An Egyptian woman has reportedly killed her husband in Kuwait before fleeing to her country, leaving a 10-month-old baby with her neighbour.

The woman told the neighbour on Friday that she wanted her to look after her daughter as she needed to go out for an urgent matter.

However, hours later, the woman did not show up and the neighbour, worried about the prolonged absence, repeatedly called her, but there was no answer. The neighbour was shocked when about ten hours later, she received a message on her mobile from the woman informing her that she was in Egypt.

“I am now in Egypt and a woman will come today or tomorrow to take the baby from you. You will know later why I left Kuwait. Take care of the baby,” the message said, Kuwaiti daily Al Rai reported on Monday.

Even though she was shaken by the unexpected message, the neighbour looked after the baby. However, when a foul smell came out of the neighbour’s flat, she contacted the police in Khaitan and reported the situation.

Policemen rushed to the scene and broke into the flat where they found the husband, 51, in a pool of blood.

Doctors said that he had been hit on the head and other parts of the body with a non-sharp object. A strong smell of chlorine prevailed in the flat.

The investigation revealed that the victim worked as an accountant and that he had two other children who had left Kuwait a few days before the murder.

The mother could not take the baby daughter with her as she had no passport. Reports said the baby would be handed over to the Egyptian embassy in Kuwait.

Egyptians make up the largest Arab expatriate community in Kuwait where two thirds of the total population of 3.3 million are foreigners, mainly unskilled workers and helpers in the construction and service sectors.
