Manama: An Egyptian driver rammed his heavy truck into a pickup truck carrying five US soldiers in Kuwait City, the authorities said.

The driver, Ebrahim Sulaiman, 38, was injured in the failed attack on Saturday and taken to hospital.

The interior ministry said that the driver “intentionally bumped his truck into the pickup carrying the US citizens” and that he possessed suspicious items linked to the Daesh terror group.”

Following preliminary investigations, a letter hand written by the suspect him was found in his possession. The letter included his pledge of allegiance to the terrorist group, and the adoption of its ideology, the ministry said in a statement carried by Kuwait News Agency (Kuna).

“Explosives, including a belt, were also found in the truck Ebrahim was driving, which was owned by a local contracting company, indicating his intention of plotting a terrorist action in the country. The Daesh supporter suffered a number of bone fractures and was transported to a hospital under security guard. None of the US citizens was harmed in the attack,” according to the statement.

Security agencies are still questioning the suspect as investigations were launched to learn more about the circumstances of the attack and accomplices, the ministry added.

Sources told Kuwaiti daily Al Rai that the suspect who worked for a company with contracts with the Municipality of Kuwait admitted his allegiance to the Daesh terror group.

The investigations are including people who were acquainted with the suspect to assess whether they held the same ideology, the sources said.
