Manama: A Kuwaiti lawmaker said that Kuwait and the other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries would not be swept by revolutions, like in some Arab countries.

"The special and strong family relations between the leaders of the GCC countries and their people means there will be no Arab Spring in them," MP Shuaib Al Muwaizri said, quoted by Al Aan news portal.

According to the lawmaker who chairs the interior and defence parliamentary committee, the various dramas unfolding now in Kuwait are political actions stimulated by the high level of freedoms.

"It is not a political crisis, but rather differences between the legislative and executive branches," he said. "We do hope, however, that the differences will not deteriorate the level of crisis," he said.

Several establishments have gone or threatened to go on strike to demand better working conditions while MPs have been calling for a thorough investigation into allegations that at least two makers had received political money into their banks accounts.

"Calls to dissolve the parliament should not be heeded until the investigation into the alleged bribery cases concludes," Al Muwaizri said. "Nobody should be able to get away with acts of corruption."
