Manama: Arab cities have the potential to be the top tourist attractions, a tourism official from the United Arab Emirates has said.

"Arab countries enjoy great potential to offer world-call tourist services," Abdullah Salem Bin Suwidan, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism and Commerce of Dubai, said.

"Arab cities are qualified to become the world's best tourist destinations," he said at the International Tourism Trade Fair (Fitur 2011) in Madrid, Kuwait Times reports on Monday.

Suwidan said the UAE was participating for the tenth time in the annual event that brings together thousands of worldwide tourist experts, hotels, tour operators, travel agencies and tourism offices from 166 countries.

Arabs taking part in the international event said that the gathering "provided a great opportunity for the Arab agencies to showcase the various aspects of the Arab civilization and the Arab cultural heritage."

"We aimed to give the European tourists, particularly the Spanish ones, clear insights into the wonderful archeological sites in Kuwait and the country's architectural development," Khalid Abdullah Al Ghanem, Deputy Chairman of the Kuwait Tourism Enterprises Company, said, quoted by the daily.
