Manama: Pan-Arab satellite channel Al Jazeera is to re-open its bureau in Kuwait, one year after it was ordered shut down.

“The information ministry has agreed to reissue the licence,” said Saad Al Saeedi, the Kuwait bureau chief of the Doha-based channel. “The reopening of the bureau will be within 10 days. We are now working on the administrative procedures,” he said, quoted by Al Aan news portal.

The decision is attributed to the new policy of the ministry after the shake-up at the top, Al Saeedi said.

The information ministry last year revoked the licence of the pan-Arab station after it covered live a controversial meeting that was broken up by clashes between participants and anti-riot police.

The authorities said that Al Jazeera was biased and took sides in its coverage.
