Manama: Six firemen were injured as they put out a fire at a nine-story building in the Farwaniya area in Kuwait City.

Khaled Al Mikrad, the Head of Marine Rescue, told the media that the fire broke out at the basement of a residential building in Farwaniya.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene and found that the basement had been used to store plastics and other inflammable items, he said, quoted by Kuwait News Agency (Kuna).

Firefighters had to use the longest ladder in the fire department to rescue people living in the top floors.

Al Mikrad said that around 150 residents were evacuated from the building with the help of 80 firefighters.

Four firefighters were treated for injuries at the scene, while the other two were taken to hospital and released later.
