Manama: Three female journalists have been elected to the board of the Bahrain Journalists Association, confirming their growing role in the field.

Samah Allam from Al Watan newspaper, Ahdeya Ahmad, the head of Bahrain TV 55, and Aisha Al Siddiq, from Al Ayam, secured the third, fourth and sixth highest scores to be among the eight journalists elected by their colleagues to the board of the BJA founded in 2001 to represent and protect the interests of all Bahrain-based journalists.

Other winners include Ihab Ahmad, from Al Watan, Muhannad Sulaiman, the head of Bahrain News Agency (BNA), Osama Al Majed from Al Bilad, Abdullah Al Mannai from Akhbar Al Khaleej, and Ali Majeed, from Al Ayam.

The board will be chaired by Mones Mardi, the editor-in-chief of Al Bilad who was unchallenged in his bid for the position held for a decade by Eisa Al Shayji, the editor-in-chief of Al Ayam who did not wish to run.
