Manama: The University of Bahrain will re-open next week, two months after it was shut in the middle of the country's worst unrest.
The university board said that the re-opening of the colleges would be gradual, starting with the law, IT and engineering colleges on Sunday and ending with the arts and teacher's colleges on Thursday.
The academic year would end exceptionally end on July 28 and the colleges would re-open after the summer break on September 25, the board said following its meeting chaired by the education minister.
In the original plan, the university attended by more than 20,000 students, was supposed to go on summer break on June 30.
Violent clashes
The university in Sakhir, 40km south to Manama the capital, was in March the scene of some of the most violent clashes between students from the country's major sects, with each camp accusing the other of using help from thugs.
University officials said that the damage inflicted on the largest learning institution in the country was "extremely high".
