Manama: A Bahraini traffic court on Sunday sentenced two motorists to three months in prison and a 100 Bahraini Dinars fine each for stalling traffic in Manama last month.
The pair was among 18 motorists arrested by the police after social networks called for halting traffic around Manama and bringing the capital to a standstill on the mornings of September 21 and 26 to exert pressure on the government.
The interior ministry had warned that it would take legal action, including imposing fines, revoking the driving licence and impounding the vehicle of anyone found guilty of stifling the capital.
A strong traffic police force was deployed on the days around Manama and along the main highways leading to the capital.
According to protesters, the Manama Blockade had been successful, but the authorities insisted that it failed.
The court said that the cases of the other defendants would be reviewed soon, but gave no time frame.
