Manama: Speeding and jumping red lights topped the list of traffic violations in the first six days of Ramadan, an official has said.
"We recorded 21 accidents, three of which were serious, but fortunately, there were no casualties," Mousa Al Dossari, the head of traffic culture awareness, said.
Fatigue and loss of concentration resulting from staying up late are to blame for most of the accidents, he said on Tuesday.
According to Al Dossari, evening traffic has intensified during the first week of the month.
The official said that 33,865 vehicles arrived in the country via the 25km causeway linking Bahrain with Saudi Arabia.
"However, the number of vehicles crossing in the other direction reached 64,680 cars, 267 tourism buses and 2,816 trailers," he said.
Bahrainis tend to use the Ramadan evenings for shopping in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.
In Kuwait, officials said that four people were killed in traffic accidents in the first week of Ramadan.
