Manama: A suspect from the group of people who attacked Asians with sharp objects and vandalised their shops has been arrested, the Director-General of the Northern Governorate Police said on Monday.

Five Asians were injured in the attack late on Saturday in the Mukharqa area in the Bahraini capital Manama.

The police chief said that “as soon as the incident was reported, the Public Prosecution was informed about it and the relevant security bodies rushed to the crime scene and began an immediate investigation into it, in accordance with the legal procedures required in such cases.”

The investigation was kept strictly confidential throughout the following day due to the sensitivity of the case, but the identities of the other attackers have been ascertained, the police chief said.

Search efforts have been intensified by the security bodies to arrest the remaining outlaws and refer them to the Public Prosecution, he said.

The security bodies are committed to assuming their duties of ensuring the security and safety of all citizens and residents, he added.
