Manama: Bahrain's public prosecution has launched an investigation into reports that a teacher had forced a private school student to kiss her foot.
The probe of the emotionally-loaded case was ordered after the student's father sued the teacher.
The prosecution said that the father told the investigators that the Arabic teacher had ordered his four-year-son to kiss her foot to humiliate him and that he informed the school management when he heard about the incident.
The student's brother, 5, confirmed that the teacher repeatedly asked him to kiss her foot.
The public prosecution on Sunday added that the student was quizzed in the presence of a social expert and that he said that the teacher took off her shoe every day, asked him to kiss her foot and put it back on afterwards. The other students kissed her on the cheeks, he said.
The student attributed accepting to kiss the foot to the distinguished love from the teacher who singled him out.
The prosecution said that it had requested the administrative investigations carried out by the private school and by the ministry.
The lower chamber of the bicameral parliament last week had called for stringent action against the teacher and threatened to grill the education ministry if he did not conduct a through investigation of the incident seen as sect-motivated.
