Manama: Bahrain's police have taken action against a man who claimed that his son has disappeared last week and sparked a massive man-hunt and search operations.
The man will be charged with wasting police time and making a bogus claim about the disappearance of an 11-year-old boy.
News of the disappearance of Hamad Ebrahim Mohammad Saif has sparked an unprecedented mobilisation of the police in Muharraq, Bahrain's second largest city, thousands of Blackberry users and a nation-wide campaign launched by the social development ministry.
The alleged father said that Hamad left their home on Saturday and that he had not returned home. The man said that Hamad's mother was away in Yemen where she went to look after a sick relative and that she was not aware of her son's disappearance. "Telling her would kill her," he claimed as the number of sympathisers increased rapidly.
However, the police on Saturday said that the claim was baseless and that the man had concocted the story.
According to the police, Hamad left the country with his real father and has used a document belonging to one of the man's sons.
Reacting to the police statement, angry Bahrainis called for severe legal action against the alleged father.
