Manama: Bahrain’s interior ministry has called for information that would lead to the people who shot and killed a 22-year-old Bahraini early on Saturday.

“We have received a report at 2.30am that Ahmad Esmail Abdul Samad, 22, was taken to the International Hospital by four people,” Tarek Al Hassan, the head of the public security, said. “He was suffering from a deep wound to his left thigh and was transferred to the Salmaniya Medical Complex at 4.36 and the public prosecution was alerted. Ahmad died at 5:55am,” he said.

The opposition said that the victim was shot by men in civilian clothes in Salmabad, in the outskirts of the capital, Manama.

However, Al Hassan urged caution before drawing conclusions.

“There are people who want to undermine public security by disseminating erroneous information about the incident and this hinders the process to identify and catch the culprit. Initial reports by relatives of the victim indicate that whoever fired the shot was in a civilian car,” he said. “The competent authorities are still looking into the crime and we urge whoever has information about it to relay it to the police,” he said.
