Manama: The Arab Forum on Human Rights has launched the Arab Gulf Parliamentary Initiative to counter threats posed by Iran to the security of Arab states.

Bahrain’s state news agency said the initiative is aimed at supporting efforts being made by Arab and Gulf governments and organisations to address the dangers posed to the future of pan-Arab national security, the society as well as the peoples of Gulf and other Arab countries by Iran.

Member of the Bahraini parliament, Jamal Abu Hassan was named secretary-general of the new initiative.

Fayez Al Shehri, member of the Saudi Consultative Assembly (Shura Council), Abdullah Ahmad Al Teraiji, member of the Kuwaiti parliament, Mohammad Tatebna, member of the Mauritanian parliament, and Rashid Ahmad Al Me’dhahi, member of Qatar’s Consultative Assembly, were named members of the founding committee of the initiative.
