Lawyers agree to wear black robes
Bahrain's lawyers will wear the black robe as part of their profession starting September 1, the head of the Bahrain Bar Society has said.
Manama: Bahrain's lawyers will wear the black robe as part of their profession starting September 1, the head of the Bahrain Bar Society has said.
"The society members have agreed to start wearing the robe with the opening of the new judiciary year. But it will be a matter of choice because there is no text that binds lawyers to wear the gown," Jameela Salman said yesterday.
"The standard black robe attire is worn by male and female lawyers in most Arab countries and in all Gulf states, except Bahrain, and it is about time that lawyers started wearing it in order to distinguish them from other people," she said.
Jameela who was last year elected to head the bar society denied claims that lawyers had refused to put on the robes.
