Manama: Bahrain’s foreign ministry on Monday said that it was following closely the tragic accident that occurred in Kuwait in which five people were killed and 47 were injured, including six seriously.

The ministry in a statement posted on its website did not specify whether all the casualties were Bahraini nationals, but it said that a Bahraini bus carrying Bahrainis to Iraq was involved in the accident.

“The Bahraini embassy in Kuwait, following directives from Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid Bin Ahmad Al Khalifa, is closely monitoring the situation and is liaising with the Kuwaiti authorities over the dramatic accident,” the ministry said.

The injured were taken to Al Jahra Hospital, it added.

“The ministry extends its condolences to the families of the victims and stresses its keenness on providing the appropriate treatment for the injured and facilitating their return home as soon as possible,” the statement said.
