Manama: Bahrain police on Saturday said that they had arrested five people in connection with the murder of a man.
The identification and arrest of the suspects were the result of an investigation launched by the General Director of Crime Detection and Forensic Science following a report that a dead person had been taken to the Salmaniya Medical Complex, the country’s largest hospital, the police said.
“The victim was identified as one of the people who had escaped from the detention centre on May 19 and had previously been convicted in a criminal case,” the police said in a statement.
“Initial details indicate that he was murdered at Al Malkiya beach,” they said, referring to a village in the southern coast of the island kingdom.
The General Director said that the police investigation also led to the confiscation of a gun, believed to be the murder weapon.
Legal procedures are being taken to refer the case to the public prosecution, he added.
Meanwhile, Bahrain police denied media reports they dispersed protests near the Seef district, saying that they were “not only incorrect, but also misleading”.
“In fact, the citizens and residents of Bahrain enjoyed a pleasant Eid Al Adha holiday and their daily lives and affairs were normal,” the Police Media Centre (PMC) said.
“The PMC renews its call to the media to adhere to professional standards and to seek information from official sources rather than depending on unverified rumours on social media that are often aimed at spreading misinformation.”
