Eight Bahraini girls train to become first native female crew in Arabian Gulf

Manama: Eight Bahraini girls on Tuesday started training to become the second native female crew in the Arabian Gulf.  Oman Air is the first airline in the Gulf to have local female crew.

The girls will undergo a ten-week intensive training programme at Gulf Air's headquarters in Muharraq, Bahrain's second largest city.

The trainees were recruited through a joint initiative between Gulf Air and Tamkeen, a government programme to empower locals, to encourage more Bahrainis, particularly females, to join the national airline.

Samer Majali, Gulf Air Chief Executive Officer, wished the trainees success and explained the importance of having Bahrainis within every division of the company.  

"Cabin crew are the face of Gulf Air and key ambassadors for the Kingdom. They have one of the most important positions in the company in setting the standards of service we offer our customers," Majali said.   

"It is part of a wider initiative that Gulf Air has launched demonstrating its commitment to provide career opportunities to Bahrainis in cooperation with Tamkeen," the company said.

"This includes ongoing two-year on-the-job training for engineering graduates, recruitment and training of 125 Bahrainis in Gulf Air's World Wide Call Centre Programme, as well as training company employees within Tamkeen’s Career Progression Programme and providing training facilities to the Aeronautics Maintenance Engineering Programme," according to the airline.
