Manama: Jalil Omar, editor at Al Ayam daily, said the UAE experiment was among the most successful Arab unions.

"Many other experiments have lamentably failed, but the UAE has been a bright example of uniting all forces and moving forward vibrantly, mainly thanks to the robust foundations laid by the late Shaikh Zayed [Bin Sultan Al Nahyan], and his brothers and the leaders of the emirates," Omar said.

For Omar, the success of the federation has been singularly outstanding.

"However, the UAE's greatest success story has been among the people who have been enjoying high living standards and health services that are better than those offered in many advanced states," he said.

‘Gradual progress'

According to the veteran journalist, the keen interest in improving legislative representation was clear on September 24 when Emirati men and women voted and ran in the elections.

"The country's progress is gradual and is moving according to the pace that best suits the country.

"This is highly significant because a peek at what has happened in other countries proves the wisdom of such a policy."

For Omar, the global importance of the UAE is well reflected in its ties with a large number of countries.

His colleague Jasem Mansour, is the managing editor of Al Ayam. He is another Bahraini with high regard for the UAE and an avid admirer of how the country has progressed steadily despite the daunting challenges in the region.
