Manama: Bahrain’s foreign ministry on Monday requested Bahraini nationals not to carry satellite communication devices when they visit India.

The ministry said that India has banned devices such as Thuraya and Iridium phones, and urged Bahrainis to comply with the local rules and regulations.

Earlier this month, the UAE foreign ministry issued a warning to its citizens against taking satellite communication devices to India.

India-based media said that the local government was keen on full respect of the law following reports that “mountaineers and trekkers travelling to remote areas have been using satellite phones without obtaining permission from the appropriate authorities”.
