Manama: A Bahraini journalist was fined $132 (Dh486) on Wednesday for violating a gag order.
Bahrain issued the media coverage gag in the case of Mansour Bin Rajab, a former minister of state who was dismissed in March amid allegations of money laundering.
Under the March 25 gag, the media was directed to publish only what was released by the public prosecution.
However, Mohammad Al Sawad, a journalist for Al Bilad daily, said during the investigations that when he published his article on June 1, the case was no longer under the mandate of the prosecution and transferred to the jurisdiction of a court of law.
Bahrain's penal code stipulates that violations of gag orders may be punished by up to one year in prison.
