Manama: Bahrain and Thailand have agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in several areas.
During a meeting in Bangkok, King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa and Thailand's Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said that they looked forward to stronger ties and higher levels of cooperation, mainly in the trade and business sectors.
King Hamad was in Thailand following a historic three-day trip to Japan, his first to the Far East, where he held talks with the emperor, the prime minister and senior officials.
According to Thai media, Shinawatra, Thailand's first female Prime Minister and the youngest in over 60 years, will visit Bahrain from May 13 to 15. She will be accompanied by a delegation of businesspeople who will explore with their Bahraini counterparts opportunities to invest in Bahrain.
King Hamad said during the talks that he welcomed Thai investments in Bahrain's infrastructure, Bahrain's official news agency said.
The latest political developments in the region and the significance of strengthening peace and security and supporting international efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East were also reviewed by the two leaders, the agency said, adding that Shinawatra reiterated Thailand's condemnation of last week's attack on policemen at the entrance of Al Eker village, three days after Bangkok denounced it in a statement.
