Manama: Bahrain’s foreign ministry on Sunday said that it helped repatriate two young Bahrainis from Guatemala after their mother, an Arab, was arrested by the local authorities in a legal case.

“We have dispatched a diplomat from the Bahrain embassy in Washington to Guatemala where the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) does not have a diplomatic representation,” the ministry said.

The diplomat discussed the case of the two Bahrainis with the local authorities ahead of their repatriation, the ministry.

“The embassy was in constant contact with the father to update him on the developments until the two children were home.”

The embassy is still looking into the case of the mother with the Guatemalan authorities, the ministry said.
